Synopsis On the occasion of the centenary of the writer Giovanni Verga - writer of the famous Cavalleria Rusticana - the storyteller, Luciano Busacca, reaches the Cunziria village, place of the famous duel. Conquered by the suggestion of the place and the expanses of prickly pear, he lets himself be carried away in a story about the love triangle that led to the bloody challenge, and all in a rigorous ancient Sicilian dialect. The film is also a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Francis Ford Coppola's Godfather, who reconstructs the Cavalry within the trilogy and to the peasant oral tradition, a Unesco World Heritage Site, and finally, a melancholy look at the migratory flows of many Italians who all he early 1900s left for distant continents and never returned. Thanks to the cultural commitment of recent years, the Cunziria has come back to life, becoming a natural stage for theater and cinema for many Italian-American productions, and will be totally restored by the Italian Ministry of Culture.
Director's notes The short pays homage to three important celebrations: that of Giovanni Verga, author of the Cavalleria Rusticana, Franco Zeffirelli, director who makes it a memorable filmic transposition and the Godfather, who turns 50 and stages the Cavalry within the Trilogy.
The story of the Cavalleria Rusticana, one of the most loved by Oscar winner Ennio Morricone, quoted by Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese returns today in the story of a storyteller, in the combination of the protection of traditions, such as that of the oral story and the realist story. An anthropological look also on the migratory flows of many Italians who at the beginning of the 1900s left for distant continents and never returned.

Our Review
Watching LEGGENDE RUSTICANE is like Jumping around from the now to some seventy years back and connecting events through their thematic links rather than straight chronology. In the process, the film makes the case that writer Giovanni Verga was larger than any decade, greater than any single generation. A true masterpiece.
