WAVES

Synopsis

Two friends Sam and Ethel play a fun game to reconnect at their local beach.

Our Review

This short film is easy to like and simply stuffed with charm. Waves is a breezy comedy with some knowing bite. Credits to witty scripting from writer Giles Gartrell-Mills. Sam and Ethel perform with such ease that you doubt them to be true friends in real life.

Everything about it works, the cinematography, the locations, the acting, the story line and definitely the direction is commendable.

Director Biography - Katharina Keil Katharina Keil is a German Australian citizen with more than 20 years drama production experience to her credit, including AFI award-winning films, long-run television series, telemovies and short films. Possessed of an adventurous spirit, she loves travel almost as much as she loves film and television. Her high work ethic, sense of humour, ability to work as a team with film professionals from diverse backgrounds and her strong sense of storytelling have allowed her to indulge both passions: she has worked on television and feature film drama productions in Germany, Australia, the United Kingdom and South Africa, primarily in script supervisor/continuity and assistant director roles. Katharina has also written, directed and produced six short comedies and enjoyed the success of screenings at festivals and international sales. Occasionally she also loves to perform in front of the camera.

Director Statement "Waves" was filmed on Tamarama Beach in Sydney on the special public holiday for Queen Elizabeth's funeral. It's a sweet and funny story about two women playing a game to reconnect. Waves stands for more than the waves in the ocean. Waves of life is the reason it took me 18 years to finally pick up directing again.
