Miss Mary Mack

Set against the backdrop of the heart of the Covid19 pandemic in Seattle, Washington, Miss Mary Mack is a spine tingling, thriller/horror film.

At its heart, Miss Mary Mack explores the universal themes of family dynamics and sibling relationships, which are often fraught with complex emotions, rivalry, jealousy, resentment, shared circumstances, love, joy and tragedy. The underbelly of the film is a sinister one, however which eerily evolves into a suspense filled nightmare.

Our Comments on the film:

In under 18 minutes, this film takes you through a ride, with a range of emotions. Hooked from the beginning, you are always looking forward to the next moment. Screenplay is tight and explains the situations of other characters well, even without them making an appearance. No doubt, the Lovering sisters have a great future. Short-filmz wishes them many more bright chances!

Director Statement

Miss Mary Mack is a short film inspired by the relationship between two talented sisters, Sydney and Lexie Lovering, and the isolation imposed on them by the pandemic. I've known the Lovering family for several years. I met Sydney at an acting workshop in Seattle I was teaching several years ago and remembered her when casting my feature film, Here Awhile. Syd was perfect for the role of a teenage Anna Camp. The Loverings and I stayed in touch and got to know each other during that film's festival run. When the pandemic hit last spring and tv/film productions shut down, the Loverings and I talked about creating a film project with Syd and her sister, Lexie in mind. At the time, Lexie was 10 and Syd turned 13 during our 4 day shoot. Like the rest of the world, they were stuck at home, dealing with sibling rivalry, entering the teen years, and all the drama this encompasses. I started writing, and we soon realized we had the seeds for an interesting loss of innocence story, that could live in a horror/ghost story, which really excited us. Their family happened to be living in a beautiful older home in Seattle, which they were in the middle of putting on the market, and so the project had an ideal location, cast and story. We all loved working with Here Awhile’s Producer, Deborah Lee Smith so we shared the story and she enthusiastically came on board! We moved forward with the idea of a short film, that could explore these themes, with an eye towards expanding Miss Mary Mack into a feature length film. The film turned out really well, and we hope it is enjoyed by audiences, as much as we enjoyed making it. XO Tim True imdb.me/timtrue
