Synopsis:
With its plot, the film represents the cycle of violence. In violence research, this is a method for identifying violence in relationships and describing its mechanisms. These cycles are divided into: The build-up of tension, where there are often minor verbal conflicts. The outbreak of violence. The "remorse phase", in which the perpetrators regret their behaviour and apologise, which their victims interpret as a sign of improvement. Ultimately, the responsibility of the perpetrator is shifted to the victim. Most of the time, they justify the violence with an action of the victim that led to the perpetrator's outburst of anger. In reality, these processes cannot be clearly delineated and often several phases blur together, leaving the victim in a permanent state between stress, fear and a desire for affection, which the victim receives in phases of remorse. The story runs through the 4 cycles. In each cycle, a new couple continues the story.
Our Review:
Domestic abuse is the most common and in many cases the victim does not even recognize they are subject to continuous abuse and undergo the prolonged mental trauma. Short documentaries such as these offer the possibility of social awareness of issues that would not have had the opportunity to see the light of day. The best part of this film is that, the characterization are natural and without much drama. Conveying the essence in such a short time with four set of actors in four different scenarios is commendable. The script is of utmost importance as it sets the stage for any project .The cast, picture quality, background score, subtitles, cinematography are exceptional.
Director Biography - Anna Rabea Sunnus
After her school education, Anna Sunnus moved to Wiesbaden, Germany in 2015. There she worked as a social care worker, first in a home for the elderly and later, while studying drama, she moved to her local women's shelter, where she continues to work today. She draws her ideas for her projects from her work and life.
